Found weeping and asked the reason, Sulaiman ad-Darani (d. 830) said: "Why should I not weep? For, when night falls, and eyes are closed in slumber, and every lover is alone with his beloved, and the people of love keep vigil, and tears stream over their cheeks and bedew their oratories, then God Almighty looks from on high and cries aloud - 'O Gabriel, dear in my sight are they who take pleasure in My Word and find peace in praising My name. Verily, I am regarding them in their loneliness, I hear their lamentation and I see their weeping. Wherefore, O Gabriel, dost thou not cry aloud amongst them - "What is this weeping?" Did ye ever see a real beloved that chastised his lover? Or how could it beseem Me to punish folk who, when night covers them, manifest fond affection towards Me? By Myself I swear that when they shall come down to the Resurrection I will surely unveil to them My Glorious Face, in order that they may behold Me and I may behold them."
اللّهُـمَّ أَسْـلَمْتُ نَفْـسي إِلَـيْكَ، وَوَجَّـهْتُ وَجْـهي إِلَـيْكَ، وَفَوَّضْـتُ أَمْـري إِلَـيْكَ، وَأَلْـجَـاْتُ ظَهـري إِلَـيْكَ، رَغْبَـةً وَرَهْـبَةً إِلَـيْكَ، لا مَلْجَـأَ وَلا مَنْـجـا مِنْـكَ إِلاّ إِلَـيْكَ، آمَنْـتُ بِكِتـابِكَ الّـذي أَنْزَلْـتَ وَبِنَبِـيِّـكَ الّـذي أَرْسَلْـت. “Allaahumma aslamtu nafsee ilayk, wawajjahtu wajhee ilayk, wafawwadtu amree ilayk, wa’alja’tu dhahr ee ilayk, raghbatan wa rahbatan ilayk, laa malja’a walaa manjaa minka illaa ilayk, aamantu bikitaabikal-ladhee anzalt, wabinabiyyikal-ladhee arsalt.” “Ô Allaah, I have surrendered my self to You, and I have oriented my face (heart) to You, and I have submitted (all matter of my life for decision) to You, and I have turned my back for refuge, in desire and in fear, towards You. Lovers find secret places inside this violent world where they make transactions with beauty. Reason says, Nonsense. I have walked and measured the walls here. There are no places like that. Love says, There are. Reason sets up a market and begins doing business. Love has more hidden work. Hallaj steps away from the pulpit and climbs the stairs of the gallows. Lovers feel a truth inside themselves that rational people keep denying. It isreasonable to say, Surrender is just an idea that keeps people from leading their lives. Allah has created the angels from intellect but He did not place lust in them, He created animals with lust but did not place intellect in them, but He placed both intellect & lust in humans, therefore he whose intellect overcomes his lust is greater than the angels & he whose lust overcomes his intellect is lower than animals... And marry the unmarried among you and the righteous among your male slaves and female slaves. If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty, and Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing...32 But let them who find not [the means for] marriage abstain [from sexual relations] until Allah enriches them from His bounty. And those who seek a contract [for eventual emancipation] from among whom your right hands possess - then make a contract with them if you know there is within them goodness and give them from the wealth of Allah which He has given you. And do not compel your slave girls to prostitution, if they desire chastity, to seek [thereby] the temporary interests of worldly life. Late at night... When people are sleeping and busy with worldly pleasures Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) gives the believers an opportunity, or an answer hour if they can fight sleep and invoke Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) for whatever they need. There is one who teaches the moon and the evening star their beauty. Muslims, I am so mingled with that that no one can mingle with me. I was born of this love, so now I hang from this branch. Shadows are always changing, fleeing. I feel that fear. There is no peace except in full sun. A voice says, Quick, the rope trick, and, Where did the moth go? There once was a soul who knew itself to be the light. This was a new soul and so, anxious for experience. "I am the light" it said. "I am the light" Yet all the knowing of it and all the saying of it, could not substitute for the experience of it. And in the realm from which this soul emerged, there was nothing but the light.
